The Name...sabbath

well the name black sabbath is really an awesome thingy and all but do any of us know why it was such and how it came about..well geezer butler..bassist of sabbath dabbled in witchcraft and black magic but never has he encountered any thing serious.One day..Ozzy brought this book about black magic u can say it was satanic and all the front of the book was well as many would call it the satan sign or whatever but if im not rong in a book i saw its some other thing but i rmbr it was something about the 7 angels..some of em were like raphael and all and they revolved under the other planets...well in it were satanic stuff and all but were written in latin. There was this sketch of satan where he had a head of a bull with big horns and had a human body with other stuff..so on that very night when geezer when to sleep....he woke up in the middle of a horrible nightmare...He woke up and he saw this black figure staring right back at him from under his bed..wouldn't that freak u out..he was so scared he stopped dabbling in black magic and told ozzy and the rest about this..and ozzy being the lyricist came up with the lyrics for black sabbath the song...which was about geezer's encounter with the "black sabbath". And Tony Iommi discovered the tri tone which was (in the medieval times) banned anywhere for it was the call for the devil...some even said there was something very sexual and evil about it that it seemed to conjure the devil...The group was so fascinated by the song they decided to call themselves black sabbath...And when they striked a record deal..the reviews were unanimous.."absolutely awful". Well heavy metal was new back then and in fact heavy metal wasn't even created then in the early 70s...Sabbath was the first metal band..and well only the kids that were their age liked sabbath.. they were the only ones that enjoyed it. Tony,Bill,Ozzy and Geezer didn't want to change their style they loved who they were and the kids love em'.So they decided to frighten people... and it really pissed magazines off when they said there shouldnt be a sabbath that they sucked coz when iron man,paranoid and other tracks were out they had to take back whatever they said.....

How was the heavy metal sound made?

ALl of em' being born in Birmingham, UK, IT was different from San Fransisco in the late 60s where they were all listening to songs about peace and love. Birmingham was a cold and black country back then..Metal.Metal everywhere...metal factories were very common. Geezer even said that he couldn't even study coz there was always the metal hammers bangin here and there...And that was where Tony was working and he was about ti resign to pursue something else on one fine day and the guy who was suppose to cut the metal was on leave or something and so they asked Iommi to take over for just tt day coz he was the only one left capable.Tony didn't know how to cut metal and so his hand was on a machine and "BANG!" THE HAMMER fell on his fingers. That was the end of tony' right hand...Being a guitarist it was difficult with those fingers..but he realized that when he melted bottlecaps and put it in the shape of his fingers and played..It gave a much heavier and more dramatic sound...That was how heavy metal came about...and the rough cymbal crashes and hard kicking bass drums by bill wad accentuated the distortion from tony and the hard and low bass sounds...ant not forgetting ozzy's persona as the scary man...
